40D --> 5D2 worth the upgrade for Sports?

Shooting mostly youth sports, been coveting a full frame body (1.6 crop tends to be too long!).

I keep stopping myself from pulling the trigger on the 5D2.... I love the fullframe and the high iso performance- but "slow AF"?

So is that "slow" relative to 1Dx? Maybe still faster than my poor old 40D?
