Calculate F stop for subject 1/2 mile away.
Dec 10, 2009

A challenge. I need to determine the proper f stop to photograph The Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie, NY from the Mid Hudson Bridge which is 1/2 mile away.

Let's start with just a stobe, a Vivatar 285 and say it's GN is 100. I will be incorporating MANY strobes as this shoot will be an event (TBD) for the public.

Camera will be a DSLR ASA 400-800.

Now I need to determine F stop to see if there is chance in h--- in accomplishing this.

If I remember correctly from my view camera days you can also "build" a greater exposure of light with multiple pops. My old Gossen meter used to do this for me but Sekonic flash meter does not incorporate this now.

So if this does not work via flash the next way of "lighting" the Walkway will be painting it with light.

Thanks all in advance.
