High ISO on GF1 w/new firmware

Can anyone comment on the effects of new firmaware recently published by Panasonic? Specifically, they mention "picture quality in low light conditions", I am courious as to what means, jsut more agressive NR or something more exciting? Any High ISO samples taken with new firmware applied?
On a slightly different note, GF1's high ISO is somewhat dissapointing, was wondering what the reason for that might be. The sensor is pretty large for ISO 1600 look as bad as it does. Is it just the physical sensor quality, or may it also be related to a generally smaller light capturing capacity of lens designed for micro 4/3. I.e. if I were to attach lens designed for say APS-C sensor cameras, would that result in more light being captured and consequently cleaner image at high ISO on GF1?
Thanks,
Greg
