Why use B&W film?
Dec 1, 2009

Apologies for a perhaps daft question.

What is the advantage of using a C41 B&W film over color film if I am going to have the negatives scanned? I keep hearing that for digital it is better to shoot in color then convert afterward, so what does the B&W film add?

I mean, it is 50% more expensive to buy c41 B&W film and the development costs are the same. If I buy non-c41 film then the film is more than double the price and the developing is 4 times the color cost.

Would love to know how or if this cost is repaid in the end result.

Happiness - I am always happy (even now).
