It allows you to reframe, compose, etc, with the LCD. Just like with any P&S.

I use live view for macro, hard MF, overhead shots, tripod work in general, etc. I don't use it often but I like that it's there when I need it.

Yes, I understand that it is live whereas preview is that same as actually taking a picture except that it doesn't write to the memory card but it does not work like the point and shoot cameras that i have in that they will refocus and change other settings as things change and it doesn't appear that live view does.
