Nikon 70-300mm VR.....worth?????

First of all I have to say that the site and the forum is great with tons of very good information.

I am planning to buy my first DSLR this week. Initially was planning to buy D5K Kit + 55-200mm kit lens from amazon.

The budget I had kept was about $1000.

I took my wife to bestbuy to try out the camera, and both of us absolutely loved D90. Even though we won't use many advance featured of D90 (compared to D5K) but we really liked the view finder, LCD screen and also the basic ergonomics of D90.

So now I will buy the D90 kit from amazon ( 1030 right now).

Since amazon is giving a $200 discount on purchase of the 70-300mm lens with D90/D5K, I am really tempted to but the lens along with the D90 which will end up costing me a total of ~ $1350 or so.

Is this lens worth it or do I save the money to buy some prime lens later on. I just don't want to miss the deal now and regret later on. Since the D90 comes with 18-105mm kit lens, how often will the 70-300mm be used.

Again I am just an amature.

I am not planning to buy any prime lens right now. Will be buying it later.
