lens recommendations for Thailand
Nov 15, 2009

I'll be going to Thailand for 3 months this winter. I've never been to S.E. Asia, but have traveled extensively in Europe, Middle East and S. America.

I've got a D300 and like to shoot a lot of street life, candids, and general scenery, especially sunsets etc. However, I also have a bad back, so I can't stand lugging too much heavy gear around.

I'm wondering if people who've been to Thailand can recommend which lenses to take and the general safety of of my gear. Should I take all my lenses (70-300 VRII, 50mm 1.4, and 16-85mm VR) or can I just get away with one (16-85mm)? How safe is my gear from theft and what sort of attention will I attract with a DSLR?

How about not even taking the D300 and just just buy a Panasonic G1 or GF-1. for the trip?

Thanks for any advice,
