Which Alpha with Minolta Lens

Hey Folks,

I need some help for a friend.

They are going on a long trip to South Africa and want to get a camera. They don't want to invest more than a thousand dollars $1000 US.

His father has given him a bag full of Minolta branded lens so I have suggested they get a Alpha, pending what you guys say.

Which Alpha model is the newest/best for sub $1000.

I am a Canon guy and don't have a clue as to which model number is the newest as I am unfamiliar with that detail of the product line.
