Let's see if the firmware fix works
In reply to Bruce Burke, Nov 5, 2009

Canon's initial "fix" for 1DIII (after denying the problem) was to issue a frimware update and pronounce the problem cured. That of course, turned out not to be the definitive fix. We ended up with a hardware fix, then more firmware, than a second hardware fix. Now the problem actually seems to be fixed, and it might be a good time to look for a decent price on a 1DIII (IMHO).

If Canon's firmware update for the 7D fixes the problem, than thank goodness, we can move on. If not - well then it could be the 1DIII all over again. I sure hope that that doesn't pan out that way !

I haven't tried the new camera yet. My local dealer tells me that there have been some complaints about autofocus (sigh) ...so I'm going to need to wait a little bit. Maybe that issue is all explained by "anxious jitters" or user error in the AF config - We'll just have to wait and see.
