Older MF lenses a gimick on a G series camera?
Nov 2, 2009

I have been reading a bunch of posts and opinions regarding legacy lenses and just wondering of the legacy lenses are gimmicky or really usable on a mirco 4/3's camera.

For instance, would shooting a G1 (or GH1, GF1) with high quality Voigtlander lenses have good IQ and have a similar MF experience to shooting a Bessa R3a? In theory it seems to me they should be similar. Obviously a G1 is not a rangerfinder camera but with the focus zoom and apeture priority it seems like it could be similar...

However, with the 2X crop would it make sense to invest in some older Voigtlander lenses or would it be really frustrating and hard to manage with the crop factor?

(e.g. a 40mm 1.4 Nokton for $399 - could buy used for less) http://www.cameraquest.com/voigt4014.htm

and/or a 15 4.5 superwide for #399 (could buy cheaper used)

I am not trying to start a flame war or anything, but really interested to know if it is a viable alternative to buy MF lenses for a G1 and maybe get some of that rangefinder zen photography experience going...

Any owner experiences with examples? Is it a worthwhile experience to shoot that way? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

K
