7D Battery Grip a Significant upgrade to 40D/50D BG-E2x

Just looking through the preview and noticed that the BG-E7 for the 7D has one very nice feature that has been sorely missing from the 40D/50D battery grips: the BG-E7 now has all three of the thumb buttons on it (AF-ON, * and [ ]) unlike the BG-E2x which has only two buttons.
This allows you to use the same button assignments in portrait and landscape mode when using custom Focusing and Exposure locking options.
It bugs me significantly that I cannot do that with my 40D, having to either cripple the customization to not take advantage of the third button, or keep reminding myself about the difference when switching portrait/landscape.
Maybe not a big deal to some, but I haven't seen this discussed. For me, it's yet another compelling reason to upgrade my 40D.
