Why is 1.3 crop better for *your* needs?
Oct 21, 2009

We've heard a lot of people complain that the new 1D should have been full frame.

We have also heard a lot of people defend the 1.3 crop as well. But I'm reading through the posts, and the ones who defend it are people who are putting themselves in the shoe's of those who might like the 1.3 crop. I'm not hearing that many actual people saying "Hey sweet, I'm so glad it's a 1.3 crop and not full frame. I'm buying it straight away!". In other words, I'm not hearing many arguments from those who will actually use and prefer a cropped camera.

This post is for you then. Why is is better for your needs. Maybe this will clear things up for people who don't understand. I'm a little unclear myself, but I think those who use it would have a better understanding than those who don't.

There are many other obvious reasons why someone might want a 1D over a 1Ds or a 5DmkII but let's stick to the one issue of sensor size/crop factor.

Why is a 1.3 crop better for your needs?
