7D autofocus problems cured by hard reset
Oct 21, 2009

I want to say a big thanks to 'tarjei99' (and others) for suggesting doing a hard reset to a 7D with autofocus problems. It actually worked for me, as I was having really strange autofocus issues with my 7D straight after receiving it. Sometimes the focus was spot on and sometimes it was either back or front focused without any clear logic. I checked and double checked my technique, camera settings and lenses (which work beautifully in my older body, the 40D). As a last resort before sending the body to service I decided to try the hard reset procedure I found here (remove the main and the clock battery, wait for a while, turn on the camera and reset settings from the menu), and to my astonishment, it actually worked. All the random focus misses are now gone, period.

Once a again a big thanks to all promoting this procedure!
