I didn't check the whole thread, but is the image of the lens (to be precise the center of the lens) exactly in the center of the picture, and is it possible to check that on the LCD (maybe using the grid) when taking the picture?

If it is, you can be sure that the alignment between camera and mirror is as good as it can get with this unit (assuming that the mirror is flat etc., but that seems likely to me). If the center of the lens is NOT in the middle of the picture, the camera was tilted relative to the mirror, which could cause some kind of distortion.
