vbd70,

Think about it again.

The 105VR's 1:1 magnification is measured in full frame 24x36mm size. (At 1:1 the focal length is not 105mm any more. But it's not important. What's important is, at minimum distance, this lens has life size image in full frame sensor.)

For cropped DX size, it's only taking the center part of the image. Of course, the image will be bigger than 1:1.

Reproduction ratios are different for the same lens for the same distance with different sensor sizes (FX and DX).

Assuming FX and DX have the same (or close) MP. E.g. D3 and D300.

I agreed on the weight and the closest distance.

In fact, one more note to add: 105/2.8VR can get a bigger than 1:1 image with DX body. The new 85/3.5 DX will be max 1:1 in DX.

Actually no, it can't - the 105 VR is 1:1 on FX or DX, the only difference is that it becomes a 157.5 mm FOV on DX. Reproduction ratio doesn't change.

Best,
