[IMGS] Olympus OM2n : still a wonderful camera.
Oct 6, 2009

Before I forget to mention this at the end of this posting : please feel free to offer C&C, or provide tips for more effective analog shooting, or just to show your own pictures that you shot recently on analog FILM.

But first allow me to explain a bit what I did.

I am sure all of us sometimes ask ourselves whether digital photography has not turned us into careless shooters, just snapping away at 100 frames/hour and counting on quantity to provide quality.

To counter such a feeling, I loaded a roll of Kodak T-Max 400 B&W in my Olympus Om2n and took that camera to the Summer's End Festivities in Antwerp two weekends ago. I had a roll of 36 shots and wanted to make the most of it.

(I also took my LX3 but used that very sparingly : I mainly took it in order to make some comparisions of similar scenes between film B&W and digital Dynamic B&W.)

I shot a combination of portraits, scenes of relaxed people and a few action shots. I had my film developed and scanned at the lab. Upon getting them back, I looked through the prints and "processed" the scans to make some VERY minor improvements ( minimal crop, a little contrast enhancement- nothing that could not have been done in the traditional wet darkroom ).

At first, I wanted to show online only a selection of 5 or 10 best shots out of 37.

But soon, I decided to show them ALL online, in a series shown in exact order of shooting, in order to document the experience of covering such an event with one single roll of film, and what exact results this yielded. So this gallery is "uncensored" : 37 shots, keepers and duds all together.

Please feel free to take a look and tell me what you think of the experiment. I thought it was refreshing. Nothing more, nothing less.

And here are some samples (all with Zuiko 50mmF1.8 and Zuiko 135mm on Om2n):
