ISO 3200: 7D vs 40D vs 5DmkII vs 20D (warning: large pictures)

I picked up my pre-ordered 7D today in the netherlands for 1450 euros. I couldn't resist, it has all the features i'm looking for in a camera except one (HDR) and even more. I think i gonna like it more than my 5DmkII but that's personal.

Since i had nothing else to do and it was already dark and raining i took some test shots to see how it performances at high iso's. All pictures RAW/Neutral/Noise reduction in DPP.

In general the 7D seems a little bit better per pixel for noise compared to the 40D but since it has much more pixels it has more detail. The 5DmkII is a little bit better than the 7D but not by a large margin. At 12800 the odds are even more favorable for the 7D since it shows no visible banding where as the 5DmkII does really show it. However i would avoid it for both cameras, it seems 3200 is enough.

7D ISO 3200

5DmkII ISO 3200

40D ISO 3200

20D ISO 3200
