Canon 100-400 L review

Hi all

Been lurking here awhile and must say you guys are often inspiring to watch! Hopefully I'll be able to contribute a bit from here on in, although the standard of photography is a little daunting...

I am seriously considering purchasing the 100-400L lens for mainly 'safari' type opportunities (I live in South Africa and am pretty frequently in game reserves), and wondered if anyone here knew of a good review. It would be my first major lens investment and unfortunately it doesn't seem to have been reviewed here at dpreview. I'm a little concerned in that it seems that people either get a good or a not so good copy - I would be buying new - does that more or less guarantee a 'good' copy?

Any help would be most appreciated!
