which monitor?

I hate to bring up a mundane topic, but it's time for me to get a new LCD monitor. According to experts I should be looking at monitors over $1,000 for photo work. However, I'm not a pro and don't want to spend that much. I'm looking at 24" monitors.

According to my research the Dell Ultra Sharp 2408 (S-PVA) is good ($449). Or the Dell G2410 (TN) is good for a normal monitor.

The HP LP2475w (S-IPS) has good reviews too ($569). Or the HP W2338H (TN) gets good reviews (a 23" monitor at $240).

Does one really need a S-IPS or a S-PVA monitor? Are these low cost ones mentioned any good? Or will a TN monitor be OK for photo work?

Anyone have any suggestions for LCD monitors (23" or 24"?

I use an A100 with a Zeiss 16-80.
