Economical PORTRAIT Zoom lens???
Sep 18, 2009

I currently have a 50mm f/1.8 and 85mm f/1.8 prime lens that I do portraits with.
Space isn't an issue, as I do most things outdoors.

I am saving up for the 70-200L f/2.8 IS lens. It will be a while before I make that purchase.

In the meantime, what small zoom lens would you recommend for decent portraits that is quite inexpensive?

Hoping for $250 or less, but expect to pay around $400???? Where is the bargain! lol

Would I just be better off getting the 70-200L f/4 lens, and just forget about the f/2.8 version, and thus be done with my debate? Would the f/4L version provide enough bokeh? I know the 2.8 lens would be "better" for bokeh tho.

I know a lot of people debate that zoom lenses are not portrait lenses. I am not worried about that issue.
