something the stores don't tell you

every nikon amera is at least $400 more than what they tell you becuase the software doesn't come with the camera. I recently switched but was never advised of the lack of ability to shoot tethered withour buying additional software.
So far every positive think about switching is got an equal negative. don't get me wrong I love the camera but I think shooting tethered is a basic funcction of a dslr, am I wrong. Should I not be upset about being nickeled and dimed?
