Tamron 18-270mm w/ VC (IS)
Sep 7, 2009

I'm considering (reconsidering) getting a Tamron 18-270mm for general walk-aroundness. It comes with vibration control, which seems handy for long focal lengths.

My other lens is the 18-55mm IS kit lens that came with the Canon T1i.

At the wide angle focal range, how do you think these two compare? I've been reading a lot of favorable reviews on the Tamron, but I wonder if some of it might be weighted due to low expectations from a superzoom? Both the Canon and Tamron lens reviews mention some slight wide angle issues.

If it was a head-to-head test between the Tamron and the Canon kit lens in the 18mm range, how do you think they'll perform?

PS: I read the pbase article on superzooms. Really useful.
