New Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 VC Lens...Why?
Sep 2, 2009

This one puzzles me. Tamron makes some fine optics. I'm as thrilled as anyone that they are now integrating their own brand of Image Stabilization to their lines of lenses. However, when I look at the 17-50 f/2.8 VC I think to myself, why? I mean at f/2.8 and a max focal range of 50mm how slow do you have to be shooting to really need VC? I'd much rather see them implement VC in their fine 70-200mm or one of their longer zooms where the VC would really be needed on a more consistent and practical basis. Just seems to me that the 17-50 f/2.8 is a poor choice for demonstrating their VC...
