nissin flash vs Canon flash?
Aug 29, 2009

Hi, firstly please accept my apology if this has been answered I couldn't find this. I am looking at buying a flash or some lights for portrait shooting. I found that the Canon 580 EX II is probably the best flash unit for Canon SLRs. I have a 450D.

But I also found that there is a Nissin brand but I don't know much about them. Do they have an equivalent flash to the Canon 580 ex II?

the 580 is pretty expensive in Australia - around $500+ on Ebay for new.

The other alternative is a 430EXII which is quite a bit cheaper.

As I said I want to shoot portraits but I don't have a studio. There are few kits on Ebay with lights and soft boxes etc. But they seem to be cumbersome to carry around if I am shooting at someones home. Is the 580 or 430 the way to go? Will the Nissin flash work with the Canon ETTL system and if so what is the closest to a 430 and 580.

sorry for the many questions but I am a complete newbie with regard to flash.
