There are different aspects of battery safety. I am not at all an expert, but some time ago a link to a review was posted in the Olympus DSLR talk, and it shows (if I am not mistaken) that the main ares of concern are at the time of charging. For this, batteries have not only "the juice", so to speak, but also safety circuits, namely for temperature and overcharge (whatever that is). Some clones are badly lacking in these safety fields, but others were as good as the Olympus batteries.

Bottom line, I am convinced that reputable brands, like Hahnel (sp?) or Hama are OK, and use them, but I tend to stay away from unknown stuff.
