1Ds Mark III underexposure 2/3 stop. Is this normal?
Aug 29, 2009

Hello everybody,

I always feel that my 1ds Mark III is underexposure. So I did a test today and figure out that it underexposures 2/3 stop comparing to my old 20D.

Is this normal? Can other 1Ds3 owners do me a favor to repeat this test and see if your camera behaves same? I hate to send the camera to Canon to calibrate.

The test target is a piece of napkin. Metering mode is partial. ISO is 200. Here is the test result.

1. 1Ds3 without exposure compensation. Histogram to left:

2. 1Ds3 with +2/3 exposure compensation. Histogram in middle:

3. 1Ds3 with +1 compensation. Histogram to a bit right:

4. 20D without compensation. Histogram in middle:

Thank you very much!
