D Lux 4 Firmware Upgrade

I recently purchased the D Lux 4 and noticed that my firmware is 1.0. According to Leica's website, their latest firmware upgrade is 1.2. On their website, Leica warns that the camera could malfunction after the upgrade. Is the upgrade really necessary? Right now the camera appears to be working fine. The old adage comes to mind "If it ain't broke then don't fix it. Is the upgrade really necessary?
