Moving from Nikon - Need Recommendation
Aug 18, 2009

Hello everyone,

I am selling my motorcycle and will have approximately $1750 to spend on a new camera system. If i am lucky, I may be able to get about $500 more.

I currently have a Nikon D70, SB600 and 18-70mm and 50mm 1.8. I am looking to possibly sell this equipment to fund my canon shopping spree.

I wanted to make sure though that I could buy high quality glass. I am currently looking at the 70-200mm f2.8 non-is lens. This lens just looks fantastic and from what I read takes fantastic images though. Would it be a waste to pair this with the Canon XSi (The camera body I am currently looking at) or would I be better off to get a nicer camera and wait on getting a lens such as that? It seems like it would be a great lens for what I need... general walk around lens, some nature, mostly portraiture and weddings for friends...

I love faster lenses and feel the extra reach would be really handy. I love bird photography, but the 18-70mm just doesn't get close enough.

This is currently what I have in the shopping cart @ B&H:

Canon Rebel XSi - $569
Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 70-200mm f/2.8L USM Autofocus Lens - $1,249

Canon 580EX II Speedlite TTL Shoe Mount Flash $420 (Could I use the 430EX here instead?)
SanDisk 4GB Ultra II Secure Digital (SDHC) Card $20

Is this a good start or should I consider other camera / lens options?

Thanks for your help,

Zac
