Selling 100-400 IS for 300 2.8 IS???? Help

Hi all,

I currently have the Canon 100-400 IS lens which I do like a lot. The only drawback I find is the long shutter speed in lower light.

I shoot wildlife but also eg. birds when I go for works. The 100-400 is a very flexible lens.

I wonder if I would regret selling the lens and buy the 300 f2.8 IS with the 1.4x extender?

Is the quality, sharpness, color etc of the 300 f2.8 IS so much better compared the 100-400 that the lack of flexibility is a limitation you'll happily accept?

The 400 and 500 primes I think I'll find to heavy and cumbersome to take with me all the time.

Appreciate your feedback.
