Opinions of 16-85?

What do people think of the 16-85 VR? I am going to buy a D90 or D5000 soon and am considering getting this lens with the body. How does it compare with the 18-105 and others? My choice is influenced by the reviews at
http://www.slrgear.com
and recommendation from Outback Photo. Sharpness is a primary consideration, else I would not be paying for the D90. I will be shooting RAW for the most part.
