Nostalgic Look at Chickaloon (1 IMG)

The Glenn Highway/Tok Cutoff (Alaska Highway 1) extends eastward from Anchorage, Alaska to Tok, Alaska, a distance of 328 miles. The road passes through mountainous terrain that is intermittently forested with paper birch, quaking aspen, balsam poplar, black spruce, white spruce and tamarack. 76 miles to the east of Anchorage on this road lies the small settlement of Chickaloon. Just to the east of Chickaloon, looking north with the foot of King Mountain at my back, lies the scenery in this picture. I had been traveling eastward through intermittent rains and during a short beak while the clouds were still thick and low I stopped and captured this image. The season and the lighting were perfect:
