I can only think about:

The photographer takes the picture, not the camera.

If his clients are satisfied with the results, it doesn't matter, if he take pictures with a D3, D50 or even a Coolpix. But I can imagine that "professional" means expensive and huge equipment. In my experience, the more equipment the photographer takes around, he is busy more time to handle that stuff and has less time to take great pictures. So it is better, to select the photographer after a deep look in his portfolio an never ever think a second about cheap or expensive equipment he takes around. Just my 2 Cents.
