Best cataloguing software?
Jul 6, 2009

Hi, I have about 100Gb of pictures in my hard drive. Some are scanned form old negatives, others are newer from digital shots, i.e., some have EXIF info, others don't. I want to create a database so that it's easier/faster to locate any given picture. I guess the best approach is to associate tags to each file so they can later be searched by keywords. I know there are many programs that do this: Photoshop Lightroom, ACDsee, etc. Which one is the best for this task? I assume it is a time demanding task to create this database and associate tags for each of the thousands of pictures so ideally I would like to use a software that creates a database in a universal format that can be read by many/all software and not some proprietary format that will force me to re create the database in the future. Any suggestions? Thanks.
