50D to 5D Mk I - Is this a downgrade?
Jun 30, 2009

After buying the 50D I've never been very happy with it.

It was under exposing to start with (fixed by Canon) and now I'm getting some shutter failures after only 2500 shots. (going back to canon tomorrow)

I've also tried to ignore the poor high ISO performance but it does bother me if I'm honest.

There are definately things I would miss like the 6.5fps, larger screen, micro-adjustment but they're not deal breakers.

I've seen a few second hand 5D Mk1 with low shutter counts ( 2K - 8K) for sale costing a little less than the 50D. I have a few L-series lenses so the next logical step would be to go full frame. The 5D MkII is out due to price.

Has anyone here made the jump to 5D Mk1 from 50D? Forgetting about the crop factor zoom advantages and whats mentioned above, is there any other disadvantages I should be thinking about? I have a speedlite 580EXII so not worried about a flash either.

I would appreciate your thoughts.
