Henri, you can do a search to find lots of comments on these various lenses.

I have the Nikon 300mm, 70-200 and now the 500vr but still find that the Sigma 150-500 (if you have a good model) is a fine lens for the price.

Example of a Gros Bec in flight, 450mm, 1/2000s, F7.1, iso 1600 with the D300:

or a dove in flight, 500mm, 1/5000s, F6.3, iso 1000 with the D300:

Generally speaking, I'm not fond of TC sbut find the kenco pro 300 TC 1.4 acceptable with the Nikon 300, great combination, and on the 500.

The TCll Nikon is too soft, in my estimation but some people use it well.

Can't tell about the Nikon 150-400 since I don't own it but it seems to be a very good alternative to the Sigma and is quite capable.

Just a few thoughts from an amateur...
