Background Color Fix for Windows Live Photo Gallery
Jun 15, 2009

If you use windows live photo gallery, you've probably noticed they annoying white or near-white background color that is distracting when editing photos.

After numerous complaints, MS has at least released a manual fix for the background color. You have to edit the registry. If you don't know what the registry is, you probably should leave now.

Here is this fix:

==============================================

We, the Windows Live Photo Gallery Team, hear you. We are looking into a
better experience with regard to your request in our next release. However,
in the meantime you can customize the viewer background color using the
registry.

WARNING, WARNING, WARNING*
Proceed at your own risk. This is not a supported feature of WLPG and
making this change to your registry may cause other issues that are not known
or expected.
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING*

Under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\Viewer, create two
32-bit DWORD values corresponding to the ARGB value of the color you want for
the background and text. The A channel must be set to ff. For example, for a
white on black color scheme you can set:

BackgroundColor = ff000000
TextColor = ffffffff
