Background Color Fix for Windows Live Photo Gallery

If you use windows live photo gallery, you've probably noticed they annoying white or near-white background color that is distracting when editing photos.

After numerous complaints, MS has at least released a manual fix for the background color. You have to edit the registry. If you don't know what the registry is, you probably should leave now.

Here is this fix:


We, the Windows Live Photo Gallery Team, hear you. We are looking into a
better experience with regard to your request in our next release. However,
in the meantime you can customize the viewer background color using the

Proceed at your own risk. This is not a supported feature of WLPG and
making this change to your registry may cause other issues that are not known
or expected.

Under HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\Viewer, create two
32-bit DWORD values corresponding to the ARGB value of the color you want for
the background and text. The A channel must be set to ff. For example, for a
white on black color scheme you can set:

BackgroundColor = ff000000
TextColor = ffffffff
