RGB vs sRGB

I'd always thought that RGB was the better choice - larger gamut and thus more room to play around with - so my camera is set to that. Today, I attended a presentation by a professional landscape photographer. He advocated sRGB. His reasoning was that it is closer to what the eye can see and what printers can reproduce. According to him, it provides better contrast for OOC photos. You won't have to clip back as much (on the histogram, I assume).

Just curious - what do you use and what is your experience with these color spaces?
