DVD Player - Internal Or External?

Well, my DVD player in my older HP Pavillion took a dump. I can no longer get the drawer to open, nor can I get it to open using a straightened paperclip, so I'm in the market for a new player. My question is should I get one that mounts internally or externally and where is the best place online to purchase one? Will an internal model fit in the Pavillion case or does it have to be specifically one for that model? Is there a chain brick and mortar store that I could buy one that would work? Thanks for your help!
