14-24: reasons to DON'T buy it ?
May 14, 2009

Can you please help with my decision of buying the 14-24?

I have a D700 and I'm going to buy the 14-24 because I want a wide angle lens to be used at 2.8 with good optical quality. I have the 24 and the 20 AIS and, wide open, they aren't good enough at 2.8 for what I want (punctual lights) specially at the corners.

My main problem with 14-24 is the absence of filter. I think I'll survive without polarizing lens but I usually shot in dusty places or very close to the ground, or water, and I normally use filters to protect the lens (and I have to change the filters).

For the landscape and wildlife users of 14-24, is this a problem ? How do you clean it ? What other issues do you have with this lens ? Is it really so good as to compensate for the weight, price and absence of filter ?

You can have an idea of what I do checking my gallery at the link below.

Thanks for your help (and please excuse my poor English)
