Experiences ordering pro-level gear from Amazon?

I'm thinking of ordering a D3 from Amazon, mainly because it's $150+ cheaper than B&H or Adorama. Does anyone have any experience ordering high-end pricey gear like this from Amazon? It's hard to imagine that such a well-known name would do anything sleazy, like ship imported gray-market gear, or not ship for weeks, or skimp on the protective packaging, but it's also hard to see how they can undercut the major players in the photo market.
