I can't understand why the lens length would affect how likely it is your sensor get's damaged. It is all about how much light/uv rays are hitting the sensor. Imagine taking a picture of a light bulb (think mini-sun). If I take a picture of the light bulb with a 50mm lens with xxx exposure time and yyy aperture from distance zzz it would be the same brightness as a 400 mm lens with the same exposure time, aperture, and distance. The bulb would be bigger on the 400 mm picture, but not brighter.

Increasing the aperture size or exposure time would increase the brightness.
