Your thoughts on a B&W digital camera

Just thinking about a solely B&W digital camera, it looks like there could be a number of attractions.

1. Each pixel on the CCD would not require a colour filter. Since a filter reduces light by about 30%, the light reaching the CCD would be increased by around 42%. This would result in less noise, or higher ISO.

2. Demosaicing would not be required, so the image would be naturally sharper.

3. The need for file compression would be significantly reduced as each pixel would only require luminence to be recorded and not 3 colours.

So as the cost of digital cameras has reduced, I figure a B&W digital camera could be made for a modest price.

What do you reckon?

Cheers,
Lindsay.
