The rock group U2 commissioned the following photograph for the cover of their latest album: http://theonlinephotographer.typepad.com/the_online_photographer/2009/04/photographer-sugimoto-strikes-a-stone-age-deal-with-u2.html

I found it to be unremarkable and attempted to shoot my interpretation earlier today with my illegal Digilux 2.
My conversion was done in LR and the effects added in PS 7.

I don't consider this a great photo nor do I consider Mr. Sugimoto's photo great.
What am I missing?
