Lightroom deleted my images!!! Did that happen to anyone else?

Last night... i upgraded to 2.3 (not sure if it's related), then I started to import some images (5D2) from my friends' wedding to the catelog
It started importing so I went to bed.
This morning I got up, it got an error mid way. About 50% of them got imported. Something like Lightroom can't find a location for the images. So I started to reimport, and don't import duplicates.
But still same error. I went to windows explorer, and to my surprise... the folder has ZERO objects! No images! My other folders are still intact, so the memory card is not corrupted.
But lightroom only imported 50% of the images, and cleaned out my memory card.. which is a big NONO... it should never touch my source device!!!
has that happened to anyone..
any remedy??
