Many people I know don't care about fullframe, but they bought a $3000 5DmkII anyways because it "was" the only dslr with HD video recording ability. Likewise, many more photographers dump their 10mp 40d just for the increase resolution of a $1200 50d.

Now, I can have the best of both world for just $799 (estimated body only price). The naysayers will complain:

But it only do 1080p @20fps. True, but I just saved $2200, so a slight lost of 10fps is not a bid deal. Besides, I rather have a 1080p options (even as low as 10fps) than a Nikon D90 with only 720p limitation.

But it lacks the Micro-Adjustment from 50D. True, but @$799, we have already STOLEN: iso3200, iso6400, iso12,800 + Vignette compensation + 920,000 VGA screen + 15mp resolution from a 50D for a saving of $400. Hey, we got to save something exclusive for the poor 50d

500d is simply OUTSTANDING. Canon is not pulling any punches from the competition; it might even stolen quite a bit sale from 5Dmk2 and 50d. I applaud canon for having the guts to release such a camera. A job well done.

PS - I don't really need or want the 15mp. It will be interesting to see what the next Canon 2000d will be like. My guess is a rebadged XSi/450d with this new 920,000 VGA 3" screen, 9 points AF, and hopefully the same iso3200, 6400, 12,800 and a 720p video is all I need.
