The size of your camera dictates your abilities as a photographer...

I recently spent some time in New Orleans during Mardi Gras and ran into several photographers who snickered at my use of a D-Lux 4 to shoot several scenes I was interested in. These same photographers then showed "proper respect" the next time I made the rounds of Bourbon Street with my 5D and L Glass along with my M8.

It's funny how so many photographers seem to dismiss really good compact cameras as being toys, not capable of producing great images. I don't find this irritating but more amusing than anything.

On more than one occasion I have actually obtained better results from the D-Lux 4 than the 5D and M8. The compact cameras keep getting better and better and the ability to always have a good camera with you is, to me, the most important thing.

The ability to 'see' the shot is more important than the gear.... and remember, a camera is a tool, not a religion.
