50/1.4 aperture oil repair
Mar 5, 2009

I just got a nice 50/1.4 from eBay, bargain price and all, put it on my D200 and took a picture at f/1.4 - awsome, crisp, couldn't wish for more. Close it down to f/4, take a picture - overexposed. What the..., take the lens off, move the aperture lever - stuck. Blades are slathered in oil. Amazingly, still close rather evenly but far too sluggishly for the camera to control.

Two questions - is it worth repairing these lenses, and if so - is there an outfit that does this sort of work at reasonable prices and over mail?

Thanks in advance for any info.
