If you have the means, give her the gift of a lifetime. Don't limit a child because of opinions of others who don't know them. I feel less restricted and free to express myself artistically using a 5D2. There's absolutely no reason to restrict a younger photographer. If they ruin it, at least it'll be a lesson to both you and the kid. Go for it. Live View with face detection is where she'll start, slowly moving to F/1.2 focusing on a person's eye. If a child can learn to play a 'grown up' piano at a younger age, why not a camera? My 5 year-old niece handles a 5D2/50mm F/1.8 just fine (with a neck strap on). She may not be ready to shoot the first lady's official white house photo, but in time...
