5D Shutter release problem
Feb 27, 2009

I've had my 5D for about 2 years now, with no problems. Today when I went to teach my photography class, the shutter would not fire.

The camera operates normally until I actually try to take a picture. A half press gives me focus lock with the normal beep, but pressing further does nothing. The shutter will not release. I tried clearing all camera settings, changing CF cards, changing lenses, removing the batteries, etc. To no effect. Mirror lock and self-timer are off.

Interestingly, the release cable still fires the shutter and the shutter release on the battery grip still fires the shutter, but the shutter release on the camera body will not fire the shutter. As I said focus lock does occur as normal.

Anyone encountered this problem? Is there a fix? Is my body hosed?

As per one suggestion, I've taken the grip off (removing the batteries) and am letting the camera sit over night. Not sure what that's supposed to do, but it's worth a try.

Thanks in advance for your help.
