S5 pro with Nikkor 17-55/2.8 Do you combine them?

Hi all.

I really like this lens on D300. It is very sharp on landscapes, good color, light pictures. As it's not a lens for close up portrait work, it brings "to much" details on D300 even at 55 mm 2.8 wide open . At the same time some people say that S5 pro's pictures look soft enough.

I'd like to ask does 17-55 works on S5 more like portrait lens, or it's still to sharp for it?
